Sometimes in our life we need a break - a both psychological and physical distance from both who, where and what we are. Some people head towards a city - in attempts to lose their self in the anonymity of a city scape. Others of us head towards the country - in attempts to listen to ourselves uninterrupted by the chaos of the city and real life. Pope Place is as the perfect place for my break. Among the quiet trees and gentle lake without the interruptions of life I was able to slow down, listen to myself and reenergize my soul. I will definitely be back for my next "break"! We would like to thank you both for your kindness in allowing us to share your "little bit of heaven". It's difficult to describe in words the unforgetable experience we have enjoyed on our visit this year, with the peace & tranquility it should more aptly be described a Pope's Paradise. The scenary is truly spectacular and I am sure that in the coming months in England I will think many times of how very enjoyable my stay here has been.
It has been lovely to meet you both,
With my best wishes, Ida (London, England)
We came up for our 1st anniversary and were perfectly charmed by The Pope Place. So many magical things happened. Toasting our marriage with wine & cheese on the deck looking out onto the lake into the late evening. I went for a run, got helplessly lost and was picked up by an older couple and returned home. During a run a friendly dog ran up behind me, lay down in the middle of the road belly up for tummy scratches. We followed our noses the next day, driving through the cornfields and farmland, and ended up in a wildlife preserve among wild plum trees. Wonderful lake, fantastic hammock. Thank you. We'll be back for sure. Gina & Britt (Chicago)
Canoe ~ written by Tim (Downers Grove, IL)
Checked in at noon Retrieved lost canoe
Had to canoe soon Relieved only Nancy knew
Wind is high Now the water is smooth as ice
Waved good bye Paddling is so nice
Water very choppy The canoe moves at will
Paddling quite sloppy Caught a dozen blue gill
Slow rising fear Puffy clouds look so nice
Paddled backward to pier Reflecting on lake, clouds seen twice
Secure canoe to dock Fun dinner at Norm's
Imagine my shock Colorful hummingbird swarms
Canoe's gone astray Young girl with fear inside her
The rope slipped away Due to the passing of a garden spider
The Bass boat gave chase Driving home towards the sun
A Blue Heron at race Watched a doe and her fawns run
In bare trees he would roost This is a most peaceful place
A lotus flower we'd boost Hiding out at The Pope Place
